Teacher Workshops

Circle Square Longways Dance

Junior/Intermediate

This participatory movement workshop requires a gymnasium or open area, preferably non-carpeted and suitable for the number of participants to form circles, squares or longways sets.

With live music, Judy Greenhill introduces the basic figures common to all three dance formations: do-si-do, allemande, hey, chain, and more. Many of the dances, which are predominantly of anglo/american origin, involve choosing a partner.

During discussion time the issues of gender roles in dancing, and acceptable physical contact in a classroom environment will be addressed, as well as strategies for dealing with student reticence towards these kinds of activities.

An instructional booklet and CD of dances and tunes will be available for purchase
